Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits Helps Consumers Fall into Fall with Seasonal Cocktails

09/08/2016

The Company’s Master Mixologists Share Their Top Trends and Recipes for What Drinks will be Hot as Temperatures Drop

MIAMI & DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As the mercury starts to drop and holiday season nears, Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits (“Southern Glazer’s”)—the largest North American wine and spirits distribution company—is getting ready for Fall with top cocktail trends and recipes from its expert Master Mixologists. From Autumn-inspired spices, to warm drinks that provide comfort from the chill, these fall cocktails will help consumers say so long to summer.

Spice things up with seasonal flavors – Coffee doesn’t corner the market on cinnamon, ginger, and pumpkin flavors in the fall. Michael Przydzial, Southern Glazer’s Beverage Program Specialist for Nevada, likes to incorporate these spices to add a twist to traditional cocktails. “I’ll add honey-ginger syrup, chamomile tea and shaved allspice to put a twinkle into a traditional Toddy that is perfect for a cool night.”

Bring back the classics – “Timeless classics that are perfect for cool weather are Irish Coffee, Manhattans and other Whiskey-based cocktails,” adds David Nepove, Director of Mixology for Southern Glazer’s in California. Regional whiskeys are particularly hot and with colder weather around the corner, expect to see bartenders reaching for varieties from Japan, France, South Africa, and India.

Get down with low proof libations – Low alcohol options help party-goers stay festive and feeling good. “Vermouth and Sherry are making a great comeback,” says Luke Detraz, Director of Mixology for Southern Glazer’s in Arizona. “Consumers like low alcohol cocktail alternatives because they can still feel part of the celebration, but enjoy in moderation.”

Go big or go home – Holidays are all about family and get-togethers, so large format cocktails are great for bigger gatherings. “The best option for serving a crowd is the good old punch bowl or bottled cocktails,” added Detraz.

Southern Glazer’s employs 15 Master Mixologists across North America, responsible for educating bartenders, beverage buyers, and corporate clients about the latest trends in cocktail culture. Michelin star chefs, national restaurant chains, international hotels, and top spirits brands rely on Southern Glazer’s expert Mixologists to help them develop world-class beverage programs that raise the bar for today’s demanding consumers. Southern Glazer’s Mixologists hold multiple certifications from accredited organizations such as the U.S. Bartenders Guild, BarSmarts, the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, Society of Wine Educators, and the Cicerone Certification Program, to name a few.
