MIAMI & DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits (“Southern Glazer’s”)—the largest North American wine and spirits distribution company—is honoring its national team of professional truck drivers during Truck Driver Appreciation Week. The annual recognition event, created by the American Trucking Associations and taking place this week, celebrates the nation’s millions of professional drivers and the vital roles they play in the U.S. economy and consumers’ lives.

From breakfasts and barbecues, to gift cards and giveaways, celebrations are taking place across the company’s 44 U.S. markets to recognize and thank drivers for their safety and service. Every driver will also receive a new Southern Glazer’s t-shirt and hat.

“Our drivers make nearly 6.5 million deliveries every year to more than 180,000 customers,” said Bobby Burg, Senior Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer for Southern Glazer’s. “Their ability to do so safely, efficiently and on time is critical to the success of our business, so we are very happy to take the time this week to show our appreciation for all that they do.”

Paul Faivre, a Southern Glazer’s driver based in Syosset, New York, is one example of a professional that exemplifies the Company’s commitment to safety. Paul joined Southern Glazer’s in 1996 and has had 50 years of accident free driving over the course of his entire career in the wine and spirits industry. He views the Company’s continued growth and investment in new vehicles and technologies as a great opportunity and reinforcement of the Company’s dedication to safety and customer service.

Of Southern Glazer’s focus on safety he says, “In the world of professional driving, when the voices of experience speak, everyone benefits. Time spent in the industry, much of which has been spent driving throughout the New York Metro area, has brought miles of smiles and solid support to the well-being of my family. It’s been a great road trip for sure!”

Southern Glazer’s reinforces its safety culture through programs that recognize drivers for consistent safety performance. The Company focuses on concepts that include defensive driving and other safe behaviors that enable drivers to operate without preventable collisions or CSA violations. Company drivers also participate in various truck driving rodeo competitions across the country that enable them to show off their expert, safe driving skills.
